WHOIS Lookup

Look up who holds a domain, when it was registered, when it expires and which nameservers it uses. The lookup reads RDAP — the registry protocol that replaced port-43 WHOIS — so the answer comes from the registry itself rather than from a cached copy.

WHAT YOU WILL NOT SEE

The registrant's name and address, usually

Since the GDPR came into force, registries and registrars redact personal contact data from public records by default. A lookup on a domain held by an individual will show the registrar, the dates and the nameservers, and then a redaction notice where the name used to be. That is the registry's decision, not a failure of the tool.

  • Personal contact data is redacted at the registry
  • Organisation-held domains often still show a name
  • Abuse contacts remain published

A WHOIS record answers who is registered, not who is responsible: registrations can be out of date, held through a privacy service, or in the name of an agency rather than the business. To report something illegal or abusive, use /report-abuse/ rather than the contact in a WHOIS record.
