Data Center & Servers

The infrastructure and network principles behind Hostna services: where servers run, how capacity is planned, and what that means for the sites you host.

Open Hostna

Where Hostna services run, and what that means for latency, law, and recovery.

Germany

Hostna’s platform runs in German data centres. For customers in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the wider DACH region that means short network paths and consistently low latency — the difference is most visible on database-heavy applications and admin screens, where every page view costs several round trips.

It also means the infrastructure sits inside the EU, so processing takes place under the GDPR without needing a transfer mechanism. For anyone whose own data-protection documentation has to name a processing location, that is one fewer thing to negotiate.

Facilities

The facilities Hostna uses provide redundant power with generator backup, redundant cooling, multiple upstream network carriers, and controlled physical access with monitoring. These are properties of the buildings and the carriers, not marketing claims about our own hardware.

Network

Servers connect through multiple upstream providers so a single carrier problem does not take a service offline. Volumetric DDoS filtering runs upstream of the servers, which is where it has to be — filtering at the destination is too late.

Hardware

Storage is NVMe on every paid plan. NVMe matters most where an application makes many small reads: WordPress admin, database queries, and package installs feel different on it in a way that raw throughput figures do not capture.

Dedicated servers are individual physical machines, with the CPU, memory, and disks assigned to one account. The exact processor, memory, storage, and port speed for each is printed on its plan card, so you know what you are getting before you order rather than after.

Backups

Plans that include backups have them taken on a schedule and stored away from the machine that produced them. A backup on the same disk as the data is not a backup. Treat the included backups as a safety net rather than as your whole strategy: keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to rebuild.

Choosing a location

Available locations depend on the product and current capacity, and are confirmed during checkout. If your project has a specific requirement — a region named in a data-protection agreement, or proximity to a particular audience — ask through the contact form before ordering and we will confirm what is possible.
