What is included, plainly
Most free plans have no email at all, and the ones that do rarely say what kind. This is the kind.
| Item | Free plan |
|---|---|
| Mailboxes | One, 100 MB |
| Address | you@yourname.hosted.hostna.com, or you@your-domain once a domain is connected and its mail records point here |
| Reading mail | IMAP (or POP) with TLS, in any mail app — phone, desktop, tablet |
| Sending mail | SMTP with authentication and TLS, rate-limited as on every shared plan |
| Webmail | Not on the free plan |
| Spam filtering | Available on incoming mail, managed from the panel |
| Storage | Shares the plan's 500 MB with your website |
A mailbox on a name you own is the part people actually want. Point a domain at the plan and add its mail records — the panel shows the exact MX, SPF and DKIM values to copy to your registrar — and the address becomes you@your-domain.
Into a mail app in five minutes
Every free account is switched on by a person, not a script. You get an email when it is live.
- 1
Create the mailbox
In the panel: Mail → Create email address. Choose the name and a strong password.
- 2
Read the connection details
The panel shows the incoming (IMAP) and outgoing (SMTP) server names and ports. Use the TLS ports.
- 3
Add the account to your app
Any app that speaks IMAP works: the phone's mail app, Thunderbird, Outlook, Apple Mail. Enter the address, the password and the two server names.
What the free mailbox is not for
One mailbox for one person. The Acceptable Use Policy applies to it exactly as to a paid one.
- Newsletters and bulk mail. Outgoing mail is rate-limited; a mailing list belongs on a mailing service.
- Transactional mail for a busy application — a shop or an app sending hundreds of messages a day is paid-plan territory.
- Archiving. 100 MB holds a person's correspondence, not years of attachments. Move old mail to your computer.
If email is the main thing you need, Email Hosting has larger mailboxes and webmail; if you need a website with several mailboxes, Pro Hosting at €2.80 a month is the next step.
Questions about Free Hosting With Email
Is there webmail on the free plan?
No. The mailbox is used from a mail app over IMAP and SMTP. Webmail is part of the paid plans.
Can I use the mailbox on my own domain?
Yes. Connect the domain to the plan and set its mail records (MX, SPF, DKIM) at your registrar to the values the panel shows. Mail then arrives at you@your-domain.
How many messages can I send?
Enough for a person's mail, not for a campaign. Every shared plan has an hourly and daily sending limit, and the free plan's is the smallest. Bulk mail belongs on a mailing service.
Does my website's contact form use this mailbox?
It can, and should: have the form send through the mailbox over SMTP with authentication rather than through PHP's mail() function. Deliverability is far better that way.
Can I have more than one mailbox?
Not on the free plan. Pro Hosting adds more mailboxes and more storage for €2.80 a month, inside the same account.
