DOES IT FIT?

What a WordPress site needs, against what the plan has

WordPress runs on the free plan. Whether YOUR WordPress site fits is a question of images and traffic, and the numbers below answer it.

NeedFree planVerdict
WordPress core + one theme + 5–10 plugins≈ 100–150 MB of 500 MBFits
A few hundred web-sized images (100–300 KB each)≈ 50–100 MBFits
Camera originals uploaded as they are (4–8 MB each)50 photos ≈ 300 MBResize first, or move up
5,000–10,000 page views a month≈ 10 GB trafficFits
WooCommerce shop with product images and a checkoutStorage and CPU headroomPaid plan from the start
Scheduled posts, backup plugins, cron-driven importsNo cron on the free plan; WP-Cron runs on page views onlyWorks for small sites; unreliable for schedules

One database is exactly what WordPress needs. PHP 8.5 is the default; if a plugin has not caught up, switch the site to 8.3 or 8.4 in the panel in one click.

INSTALLING

WordPress in the panel, three clicks after activation

Every free account is switched on by a person, not a script. You get an email when it is live.

  1. 1

    Order the free plan

Account with a confirmed email, telephone and address; then Free Hosting from the Hosting screen. Pick your hosted.hostna.com name or connect a domain you own.

  2. 2

    Open WordPress in the panel

After the activation email, the panel's WordPress section installs the current version into the site with its database created for you. Set the admin user and a strong password there.

  3. 3

    Keep it small on purpose

Resize images before uploading, keep to the plugins you use, and let the panel handle updates. A small site stays fast and stays inside 500 MB.

THE HONEST MOMENT

When to move WordPress to a paid plan

The free plan is for a first WordPress site. These are the signs the site has become more than that.

  • The media library passes 300 MB and you are deleting old images to make room.
  • Traffic passes 10 GB in a month — roughly 10,000 page views.
  • You need a second site, a staging copy, or scheduled tasks that run on time.
  • The site earns money. At that point daily backups and a service level are worth €2.80 a month.

Pro Hosting (€2.80 a month) gives 2 GB, 100 GB of traffic, two sites and daily backups; WordPress Hosting adds the managed layer. Either upgrade happens inside the same account, and the site keeps its files, database and address.

Questions about Free WordPress Hosting

Is WordPress installed automatically?

It is one click in the panel once the plan is active: the WordPress section installs the current version and creates the database for you. It is not pre-installed, because many people use the plan for plain HTML or their own PHP.

Can I use my own theme and plugins?

Yes, any theme and plugins you like — it is a normal WordPress install with full admin access. Keep to the plugins you use; each one costs storage and speed.

Will scheduled posts publish on time?

WordPress runs its scheduler on page views, and the free plan has no server cron to trigger it. On a site with regular visitors that is fine; on a quiet site a scheduled post appears when the next visitor arrives.

Can I migrate an existing WordPress site onto the free plan?

Yes, if it fits: export it with a migration plugin and import on the free site, or upload files and database by hand. Free migration done by us is a paid-plan feature.

Is WooCommerce possible on the free plan?

It installs, but a shop with product images and a checkout is exactly what the plan is not sized for. Start a shop on a paid plan.
